He is the founder and head of one of the most prestigious computer manufacturers in the world and has a net worth of over $17.3 billion.

Yes. He became successful by cutting out the middle man when he first started. The only way someone could get a dell was by buying it directly from Dell; not from a store like Best Buy or Circuit City.

The effect that Dell had is that he founded and is the head of one of the most successful computer companies in the world.
